If the porcelain floor tiles were not pre treated, I would use a protector just as this one from Fila. Being porcelain, they are very hard wearing, but can sometimes soak up fluids that can leave a stain. This protector can prevent this. I also use the other products from Fila such as Grout Cleaner and Natural Stone Sealer. All are available from Topps Tiles.
Here is the floor tiles almost all laid. Everywhere excluding the wetroom shower floor has been covered with a beautiful 60x30cm mat black porcelain tile which has been pre-treated during manufacturing from Porcelanosa. Top right of picture, you can also see where I’ve began to build the boxing in for the concealed toilet cistern.
Just a quick mention on the material I use on all bathrooms. As you may have noticed in some of the pictures I’ve posted, on the walls I always replace any plasterboard with “Aquapanel”. It’s a wall covering similar to plasterboard, but it has a concrete like texture to it and it waterproof. I always use this around all wet areas, such as shower cubicles and baths. I personally feel using standard plasterboard in these areas is a waste of time and money, because any moisture over time will degrade the plasterboard.
So here is the main part of the wetroom floor tiled. Pebble mosaic sheets on a mesh backing. Looks beautiful? Yes. Great to lay? NO!! these could be one of the most awful jobs I’ve ever had… But the look of them is probably worth it. Personally, I wouldn’t have them on the floor for future reference. But the customer was very happy. Which is the most important thing. You’ll also notice the wetroom flooring fabric on the base of all the floor. This creates a waterproof seal all around. Truly brilliant product that just gives that extra piece of mind against possible leaks. Highly recommended.
Ok, so this is the basic layout coming together. On show here is the flooring panel to the wetroom. I wish I took a minute to show all the old pipework an then what I replaced it with. Very happy with it if I say so myself, but time was a factor. The beauty of these wetroom floor panels is they can be tiled straight on to create a seamless floor, with a slight angle going down to the integrated drain. This and all fittings in this wetroom are from Porcelanosa. www.porcelanosa.co.uk
